London Underground Maps

London Underground MapsA London Underground map shows the various lines and stations of London’s belowground railway system, also known as the Tube, and the Docklands Light Railway and the London Over ground railway systems. The map is not geographical, but rather a schematic diagram showing the position of stations relative to the railway lines. The maps are colour-coded for clarity of the different railway lines, and there are multiple symbols indicating various facilities such as parking, public bathrooms and whether or not the station is accessible for wheelchair users. London Underground maps allow you to pinpoint the most direct rout to get to your required destination. Many people choose to select a station with car parking facilities in an outer London area, and then travel to central locations via the Tube; this is often quicker and easier than driving through central London to reach their destination.

At first, you may be overwhelmed by the multiple colours and confusing lines, which seem to trail off in various directions like a plate of spaghetti. However, if you take the time to study a London Underground map before embarking on your journey, you will begin to understand the diagram more clearly, and then be able to plan the most efficient rout. You will find that using the Tube is one of the easiest ways to travel around London, once you are familiar with the lines and stations.

If you are travelling from outside of London by car, and wish to park your vehicle for the day in order to travel in to London via train, you will need to look at both the London Underground map and a standard geographical map. This will allow you to plan the most effective routs for both getting to the chosen station and travelling in to London via the Tube. In this instance, it may be possible for you to find a beginning station that will have access to a line that leads directly to your destination, with no changes to be made. If you are staying in the outer London area, and wish to travel in to central London via the local station, then you may find that changes need to be made at one or more stops along the way, but this is not always the case. If you are staying in central London, you will find multiple stations that give you access to the various lines.
